Note: Windows Server 2012 R2 contains an in-box NVMe PCIe SSD driver, however Dell requires customers to update to the latest Dell provided driver to ensure full functionality. 1. Press Start > Control Panel > System and Security. 2. Select Device Manager under the System option. 3. Double-click the entry to expand Storage Controllers. Alternatively, you can click on the plus symbol next to the Storage controllers. 4. Double-click on the Standard NVM Express Controller for each device to update. 5. Click on the Driver tab and click on Update Driver. 6. Select Browse my computer for driver software. 7. Select Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer. 8. Select Have Disk. 9. Follow the steps in the wizard and browse to the location of the driver files. 10.Select the driver. 11.Click OK to exit the wizard. 12.Click Next. 13.Restart the system for the changes to take effect. 3.2 Updating the Driver for existing PCIe SSD Devices ------------------------------------------------------ Perform the following steps to update the Windows driver for a device already installed on your system. NOTE: It is important that you idle your system before performing the driver update. 1. Press Start > Control Panel > System and Security. 2. Select Device Manager under the System option. 3. Double-click the entry to expand Storage Controllers. Alternatively, you can click on the plus symbol next to the Storage controllers. 4. Double-click on the Dell Express Flash NVMe PCIe SSD for which you want to update the driver. 5. Click on the Driver tab and click on Update Driver. 6. Select Browse my computer for driver software. 7. Select Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer. 8. Select Have Disk. 9. Follow the steps in the wizard and browse to the location of the driver files. 10.Select the driver. 11.Click OK to exit the wizard. 12.Click Next. 13.Restart the system for the changes to take effect. 3.3 Installing Driver during initial OS installation ----------------------------------------------------- NOTE: The Dell PowerEdge Express Flash NVMe PCIe SSD (small form factor) controllers are only supported as boot devices for Windows Server 2012R2 on select Dell PowerEdge platforms and only when configured for UEFI boot. NOTE: The Dell Express Flash NVMe add-in adapters are not supported as boot devices. 1. Ensure that the system is in UEFI BIOS boot mode. 2. Boot to the Windows Server 2012R2 media. 3. Follow the on-screen instructions until you reach “where do you want to install Windows Server 2012R2”, and select "load driver". 4. The system prompts you to insert the driver media. Insert the driver installation media and browse to the driver file location. 5. Select the NVMe controller and continue installation. 3.4 Driver Update using Dell Update Package (DUP) -------------------------------------------------- A Dell Update Package (DUP) is a self-contained executable in a standard Dell package format and each Update Package is designed to update a single component on your system. To ensure that you have the current version of the driver, download the latest DUP from support.dell.com. Driver Update ------------- 1. Browse to the location where you downloaded the file and double-click the new file. 2. Read over the release information presented in the dialog window. 3. Download and install any prerequisites identified in the dialog window before proceeding. 4. Click the Install button. 5. Follow the remaining prompts to perform the update. Silent Driver Update -------------------- Execute the DUP from the command line (or script) as follow: > Express_Flash_PCIe-SSD_DRVR_....exe /s /l= /r Where: /s Executes the update silently without user intervention. /r Reboots the system, if required, after performing the update. /l= Appends logged messages to a specified ASCII file; creates a new file if one does not exist. For more command line options type > Express_Flash_PCIe-SSD_DRVR_....exe /? or consult the "Dell Update Package User's Guide". 4.0 Important Information ========================= Windows Server 2012 R2 contains an in-box NVMe PCIe SSD driver.
